An oath is judged on the intention of the one who asks for it to be sworn.

Sahih Muslim · Book 27 · Hadith 1653 a

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، - قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، وَقَالَ، عَمْرٌو حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، - عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ يَمِينُكَ عَلَى مَا يُصَدّ…

Abu Haraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Your oath should be about something regarding which your companion will believe you. 'Amr said: By which your companion will believe you.

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ، أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ الْيَمِينُ عَلَى نِيَّةِ الْمُسْتَحْلِفِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: An oath is to be interpreted according to the intention of the one who takes it.
