Hadith 2842 — Jami` at-Tirmidhi | Quran & Hadees
Arabic حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِذَا سَمَّيْتُمْ بِاسْمِي فَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِي " . قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ .
English translation Narrated Jabir:
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "When you name yourself after me, then do not use my Kunyah."

Narrated Abu Hurairah:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) prohibited that one use his name and his Kunyah; naming themselves Muhammad Abul-Qasim.

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib:
that he said: "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! If I have a son after you do you think I could name him your Kunyah?" He said: "Yes." So he said: "So that was permitted for me."
