Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Umm Sulaym sent me with a basket of fresh dates to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ, but I did not find him at home. He had recently gone to a freed slave of his who had invited him and prepared food for him. I went to him and found him eating; he invited me to eat with him. [The freed slave] had made tharīd for him with meat and gourd, and [I noticed] the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ was particularly delighted by the gourd, so I began to gather pieces of it and place them near him. When he had finished eating he returned to his home, and I placed the basket of dates before him. He proceeded to eat from them and distribute them [to those present] until the last of them was finished.
