Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ set out towards Badr, he consulted the people. Abū Bakr gave his counsel, then he consulted them again and ʿUmar gave his counsel, and then he fell silent. A man from the Anṣār said: “He means you [O Anṣār].” So they said: “O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, we will not say what the Children of Israel said to Moses: ‘Go forth, you and your Lord, and fight; we will remain sitting here.’ 5:24]. Rather, by Allah, even if you were to drive our mounts [all the way] until you reached Bark al-Ghimād, we would be with you.”
